Uyghur Solidarity Action AT C&A

On the Sunday, 20/9, of our rebellion week, we took to C&A to protest their complicity with the Uyghur genocide in China. We have been to C&A before for a Guerrilla Repair, but this time escalated the action as 5 brave rebels glued themselves to the shop window, and chalk-sprayed our message: free the Uyghurs. ✊🏽✊🏼

Around 40 other rebels joined outside the store with signs and repaired their clothes to offer a solution to the toxic fast fashion industry. Rebels Beth and Robin delivered powerful, heartfelt speeches about why fashion causes serious human and ecological exploitation, and how the situation with the Uyghurs is a prime example of it.❗️

We were honoured to be joined by @abdurehimgheniuyghur, who spoke to the public about his personal experiences with this humanitarian crisis, as many of his close relatives are currently being held in Chinese detention camps. He protests every weekend about this in Amsterdam, please follow him for more information and join him in solidarity whenever you can. 🤝🌍 6 of our rebels were finally arrested, after we held the space – causing C&A to close its doors to consumers – for around 3 hours. In this time we engaged with countless passers-by, offering our words and flyers explaining why we were there and the work we do as Fashion Action. 🚨 👮‍♀️

We have made our intention loud and clear: we will not be silent on this issue. We will cause civil disruption to make our voices heard. We will continue to stand in solidarity with the Uyghur community, and use our platform to demand the fashion cuts all its ties with Uyghur enforced labour. ❌🆘

We need a radical transformation in this industry, as it is rotten to its core. Green and woke washing is not enough. Sustainable fashion lines are not enough. Empty promises are not enough.

OEIGOERSE SOLIDARITEITSACTIE - 20.09.20  Op de zondag van onze septemberrebellie kwam fashion action naar C&A om te protesteren tegen hun medeplichtigheid aan de Oeigoerse genocide in China. Wij zijn al eerder bij C&A geweest voor een Guerrilla Repair, maar dit keer escaleerde de actie toen 5 dappere rebellen zich aan de etalage vastplakten en onze boodschap op de winkelpui schreven: bevrijd de Oeigoeren. ✊🏽✊🏻

Ongeveer 40 andere rebellen zaten buiten de winkel met borden en repareerden hun kleding om een tegengif te bieden aan de giftige snelle mode-industrie. Rebellen Beth en Robin leverden krachtige en oprechte toespraken over de medeplichtigheid van de mode-industrie bij de menselijke en ecologische uitbuiting, en hoe de situatie met de Oeigoeren daar een goed voorbeeld van is. ❗️

We waren vereerd dat @abdurehimgheniuyghur het publiek toesprak over zijn persoonlijke ervaringen met deze humanitaire crisis, aangezien veel van zijn naaste familieleden momenteel in Chinese detentiekampen worden vastgehouden. Hij protesteert hier elk weekend in Amsterdam tegen, volg hem voor meer informatie en sluit je bij hem aan in solidariteit wanneer je maar kunt. 🤝🌍 6 van onze rebellen werden uiteindelijk gearresteerd, nadat wij de ruimte - waardoor C&A de deuren voor de consumenten sloot - ongeveer 3 uur lang hadden bezet. In deze tijd gingen we het gesprek aan met talloze voorbijgangers, we deelden flyers uit om te laten zien wat de moderebellie inhoudt. 🚨👮‍♀️

Wij hebben onze intentie luid en duidelijk kenbaar gemaakt: wij zullen niet zwijgen over deze kwestie. We zullen de gewone gang van zaken ontwrichten om onze stem te laten horen. We zullen solidair blijven met de Oeigoerse gemeenschap en ons platform gebruiken om te eisen dat de mode alle banden met de Oeigoerse gedwongen arbeid verbreekt. ❌🆘

We hebben een radicale transformatie in deze industrie nodig, want die is tot in de kern verrot. Groen en wakker wassen is niet genoeg. Duurzame kledinglijnen zijn niet genoeg. Lege beloftes zijn niet genoeg.
